Gathering strength, standards first, building an efficient fresh basket supply chain system

Fresh fruits and vegetables are essential commodities that are in high demand in consumers' daily lives, but due to improper harvesting, poor post-harvest handling techniques and poor storage conditions, their distribution loss rate is as high as 20-30%, far below that of developed countries. In the current situation where the domestic epidemic is complex and volatile, strict prevention and control are normalized, and there are many uncertainties in the development of the industry, effectively reducing unnecessary losses of fresh fruit and vegetable commodities in all aspects of the supply chain and ensuring their continuous and stable supply is not only related to the high-quality development of every retail chain enterprise but also a basic need to protect people's livelihood.

Since 2019, the China Chain Store and Franchise Association (CCFA) has jointly launched the "Fresh Supply Chain Standardization Action Plan" (hereinafter referred to as the "Action Plan") in conjunction with Fresh Legend, Beijing Huaguan, Pagoda and other enterprises, many retail chains have adopted by adopting standardized fruit and vegetable baskets, by adopting standardized fruit and vegetable turnover baskets, many chain retail enterprises not only bring more affordable prices and higher quality fresh fruit and vegetable commodities to the people, but also make the transformation and upgrading of enterprises have a better grasp, harvest higher economic benefits and brand effects

The 2022 CCFA China Fresh Basket Application Research Report (hereinafter referred to as "the Report") is one of the key tasks of the 2022 Action Plan. Through research and interviews with more than 50 retail chains, fruit and vegetable wholesalers and growers, hardware and software service providers in the fresh fruit and vegetable supply chain and consulting organizations, the report compares the current situation of the fresh fruit and vegetable supply chain at home and abroad, reviews the development process of domestic standardized fruit and vegetable turnover baskets in China, summarizes and predicts the application models, best practices and development trends of standardized fruit and vegetable turnover baskets. It also explores the current and future innovative business models for the fresh fruit and vegetable category.

Fresh produce supply chain standardization action plan 2022-2025 work priorities

1. Standardization promotion: In the process of further popularizing standardized fruit and vegetable turnover baskets, what problems are encountered and what support is needed from the aspects of practical operation, standardization and policy coordination?

2. Refined management of the fruit and vegetable supply chain: How to improve the efficiency of the supply chain (in terms of distribution, automated processing, cold chain, suitability of fruit and vegetable storage and delivery, etc.), thereby safeguarding and extending the shelf life of fruit and vegetables.

3. Empowerment training: For different target groups (growers, distributors/ wholesalers, retail chains), what professional competencies/skills are needed in each area and how to carry out training to empower them.

4. Pilot demonstration: 5-10 different fresh fruit and vegetable commodities will be selected for pilot application in the whole process, including: standardized fresh fruit and vegetable cradle application mode, before and after analysis of standardized/automated facilities and equipment application (input and output, commodity loss, etc.), whole process carbon emission/green data measurement, etc.
